ABU DHABI NATIONAL

ABU DHABI

An ‘oasis of tranquillity’ in the desert, the Peter Harradine designed Abu Dhabi National plays host to the prestigious HSBC Championship each year. The event has become one of the most important events on the European Tour over the years, largely thanks to its status within the extremely lucrative Rolex Series.

Known for its lush fairways, strategically placed bunkers and immaculate true greens, the course is undeniably picturesque. Saltwater lakes come into play on a number of holes and make club selection important in the wind, and the variety of trees help to enhance the stunning visuals.

Some highlights of the round include the 5th – a testing dogleg left where the drive is played over water to a relatively thin fairway, and the 10th, a par 5 with several bunkers making life difficult as you attempt to navigate your way to the green.

A profile of Abu Dhabi National cannot be complete without mentioning the iconic ‘falcon clubhouse’ that sits proudly overlooking the 9th and 18th greens. This magnificent structure is one of the most instantly recognisable in golf, and provides the perfect place for a relaxing post round drink – perhaps while you contemplate how far your game is from that of the pros you have seen on TV.
