One of the gems of the Silver Coast and the final creation of the legendary Seve Ballesteros, Royal Obidos is an exciting layout with water in play on plenty of holes.
After a relatively comfortable par 4 to start the round, the walk up the hill to the 2nd tee is where the excitement really kicks in. The 2nd is a superb par 5 which sweeps round a lake and your tee shot, or second if you choose to lay-up, must carry the water. Another excellent par 5 comes at the 7th, and this one provides a lovely view of the nearby Obidos lagoon.
Holes 9 to 18 also sweep up and down the hills, and it is these undulations, along with the prominence of water, that provide the course with its character. The closing three holes are worthy of note, and the 18th is a testing par 5 with more water coming into play right in front of the putting surface.
After the round, be sure to head into the clubhouse to enjoy a well-earned drink, sample the local cuisine, and watch your fellow golfers struggle with the closing hole. The terrace provides a lovely spot to enjoy the views across the course and out to sea.
