Designed by David McLay Kidd, Machrihanish Dunes is the first golf course ever built on a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Known as the most natural links course in the world, it was “uncovered” rather than built, with only the tees and greens being disturbed during construction. This minimalist approach offers a raw, authentic experience that takes golfers back to the very roots of the game.
Set along the rugged Kintyre Peninsula, the layout follows the land’s ancient contours. With no irrigation or pesticides used on the fairways, players must master the “ground game,” navigating blind shots, punchbowls, and dramatic dunes. The ever-shifting Atlantic winds and firm, natural turf ensure that no two rounds are ever the same.
The course boasts a spectacular coastal setting, featuring six greens and five tees perched right on the ocean’s edge. As you play, you’ll enjoy panoramic views across the sea to the islands of Islay and Jura.
