HILLSIDE

LANCASHIRE

The course at Hillside meanders its way beautifully through majestic sandhills and tranquil pinewoods to offer links golf at its absolute finest. It is set out as two loops of nine – the second of which was famously described by Greg Norman as ‘the best in Britain’.

As good as the first 9 holes are, it is easy to see why the back 9 are so highly regarded, as they weave their way through some of the highest and wildest dunes in the area. To pick out a couple of memorable examples, the 10th is a magnificent par 3 played uphill to a green set in the pine trees, while the 17th is a serious par 5 often played into the wind.

Golfers visiting Hillside need to have all aspects of their game in order to play to their handicap. There is enough rough and well positioned bunkers ready to catch errant drives, and the greens have sufficient borrows and undulation to keep your attention when putting.

Hillside was put in the world golfing spotlight when it staged the British Masters, hosted by Tommy Fleetwood, in 2019 – it more than lived up to expectation and earned high praise from both the pros and spectators in the process.
