GULLANE No. 1

EAST LOTHIAN

The history of Gullane No. 1 stretches all the way back to 1884, when it was carved into the ancient links turf on Gullane Hill. To this day, with its pot bunkers, wispy grasses and smooth running greens, the course continues to offer an enjoyable challenge to golfers of all abilities.

When you factor in the fantastic views across to Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth, Fife and beyond, you realise that you are presented with one of the world’s most cherished golfing experiences. The view from the 7th tee was selected by the PGA of America as one of ‘the nine most picturesque golf spots in the world’. When you get up there, it is not difficult to see why.

It isn’t just the view from the 7th that will stick in the memory. There are many excellent holes to look out for, but perhaps one worthy of note is the 3rd, a par 5 rated as one of the best holes in the world by Golf Magazine in the USA.

The greenkeepers at Gullane deserve great credit for the way the course is presented all year round. It is a course that caught the eye of the golfing world in 2015 and 2018 when playing host to the Scottish Open.
