FIDRA LINKS AT ARCHERFIELD

EAST LOTHIAN

The Fidra course at Archerfield sits on the stunning East Lothian coastline in between two fantastic golf courses – North Berwick and Muirfield – and, despite only being open since 2004, the fact that it can hold its own in amongst those two illustrious neighbours speaks volumes.

It provides players with an intriguing mix of woodland golf and modern fast-running links. The greens are relatively large with enough of a slope about them to test even the best putters out there.

Tall pine trees flank the holes for the first part of the course, offering some protection from the wind and making it rather difficult to lose a ball. Things open up a little from the 12th onwards – an excellent medium length par 4 played to a slightly raised green – when the course takes on and maintains more of a links feel as the round draws to a close.

Archerfield’s undoubted quality has meant that it has already staged a number of important professional events in its relatively short lifetime – for five consecutive years from 2010, the Ladies Scottish Open was played here, as was the 2015 Scottish Senior Open and, the following year, the European Tour paid a visit for the Paul Lawrie Matchplay.
