DIRLETON LINKS AT ARCHERFIELD

EAST LOTHIAN

From the moment you arrive to the time you have to leave, everything about the set-up at Archerfield is first class. It isn’t just the two excellent golf courses; it also extends to the outstanding practice facilities and the quality of the clubhouse offering.

With its sweeping fairways, menacing bunkers and undulating dunes, the magnificent Dirleton course provides a stern test for golfers of all levels. Make no mistake, you need to play well to score well around this DJ Russell designed modern layout.

Deep gorse is in play for most of the round, bordering many of the par 4s and 5s, meaning a huge premium is placed on driving the ball well. When you factor in the wind, which can swirl and play tricks on the mind, it often makes sense to leave the driver in the bag and adopt a safer strategy.

While the Dirleton course may not be a traditional, old fashioned, Scottish seaside course, it certainly demands golfers to demonstrate many of the real skills of links golf throughout the round. Keeping the ball low to the ground, a good imagination when finding yourself in the run offs around the greens, and an ability to read subtle putting surfaces well to name just a few.
